Back to School Button Bash with Lindsay Friday August 21st 6-8 PM @ Artists First
Back to School Button Makin’ is the perfect place to create some rad, handmade accessories to accompany you back to your place of learning this fall! See a button design process from start-to-finish with tips to make a crisp, readable design. Make your own buttons by drawing, collaging, or collaborating and then give them a good crunch in an available button-maker (it’s super satisfying!)
Meet the Artist
Lindsay Hornsby grew up in Paducah, KY, renowned as the Quilt Capital of the World. She holds an M.F.A and B.F.A. in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design, along with a minor in Creative Writing. She’s had work published in multiple anthologies and small press comics, and also has done illustrations for many books for the indie tabletop RPG company Hex Games. She lives in St. Louis with her husband, kiddo, and a pile of pets.

Insect Art With Arlo & Maya Friday August 7th
Join us for a fun Insect-Focused Art Workshop facilitated by two Proud Art Teens, Arlo & Maya! You can choose to participate in either Maya’s group, or Arlo’s.
Diversity is natural, and can be seen everywhere, but insects specifically are the most biodiverse animal group on the planet. With Maya, we’ll combine the technical and artistic skills that are used to display insects, making pieces unique by both biology and creativity.
Maya has worked with native and tropical insects throughout high school, both scientifically and incorporating them into art. They’re studying in college to become an entomologist and have been a Proud Art participant for the last year.
With Arlo, you’ll create cute felt buggies! Come hang out and learn about different bugs and how to use textiles to create your own.
Arlo Schoenfeld (he/him) is a queer youth artist that has been with PASTL for over three years now! He’s led multiple workshops including sticker making, sticker murals, plush making, and more. His main art focuses are drawing and sewing, but he’s well-versed in many art forms.
Make a Mess with Misty Friday July 17th
Let loose and embrace the chaos of making a big ole’ mess. Discover new mark making through play, chance, and breaking the rules. Misty will show you the set-up of a triptych (three panels) artwork and then it’s time to mess it up! Wear or bring clothes you don’t mind getting messy.

Meet the Artist: Misty
Hi, I’m Misty (they/them) I’m a local interdisciplinary visual artist. Meaning… Artist as-mischief maker, wonder seeker, pleasure activist, community builder, and facilitator of play and connection. I make objects to sell (sometimes), participatory sculpture (I make a thing and that drives conversation or curiosity, but it’s usually not a sellable object), or I simply use my own actions (riding a bike indoors) as a way to question/challenge/quallenge! rules, ideas, and other social concepts/ structures/etc #rebel.

Self-Portraits & S'mores with Caitlin Metz Friday June 26th
Come ready to make weird and silly self-portraits with Caitlin Metz! They will show you how to use portraiture to understand yourself, but like in a fun way. We’ll also make s’mores + have a chill time! All materials will be provided.

LGBTQIA+ Teen Sketch Crawl at Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis Saturday May 23rd
Field trip!! LGBTQIA+ Teens: explore the Contemporary Art Museum & sketch whatever inspires you, all while hanging out with old or making new friends. Hosted by PASTL (Proud Art STL) & St. Louis Independent Comics Expo (SLICE). Limited spots available, sign up today! Bring your own sketchbook and your favorite drawing tools, although we’ll have some supplies with us if you need them.
PASTL Prom 26: Renaissance Festival Friday May 1st
Step into a magical night at our annual Queer Youth Prom! This year’s Renaissance Faire theme brings fantasy to life with festive booths, karaoke, and delicious food. Open to middle and high schoolers—registration is required and closes 48 hours before prom (May 1, 7–10 PM). 
A trans security officer will be on site for safety. Parents must sign out all middle schoolers. Come celebrate, connect, and be your authentic self!

Indigo Dying Workshop Friday April 3rd
Explore the art of natural indigo dyeing and making unique patterns and prints using clay resist.
The application of a clay mixture using a variety of tools such as stencils and paint brushes to a blank bandana creates designs and patterns that will resist, or not dye, when submerged in an indigo vat. The result is beautiful, unique white and blue patterned textiles. Each participant will receive one bandana to dye and are also welcome to bring their own cotton or linen fabrics to dye as well.
Pizza Making Class Friday March 27th
Led by Amanda Dulatt of Key Cakes
Friday, March 27th | 6-9 PM | Fennel Cooking Studio | No experience necessary | Pay-what-you-want model ($0-$20)
Who doesn’t love a pizza party? In this workshop, we won’t only have fun eating pizza, we’ll also be making the pizza! Learn how to whip up a batch of pizza dough, create sauces, and prep the pepperoni (among other toppings).
This is a hands-on food workshop. Please wear kitchen-appropriate clothing and close-toed shoes. If you are feeling ill the day of the workshop, it’s okay to sit this one out. We’ll miss you and send healing thoughts your way! This is for LGBTQIA+ middle and high schoolers (allies included)
Meet Amanda
Amanda Key Dulatt is a life-long student of the culinary arts. She’s been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years working in hotel pastry shops, bakeries, restaurants, and cafes as a pastry chef. She found true joy in 2024, teaching at Fennel Cooking Studio while running her micro-bakery, Key Cakes & Co. She believes in lifting up those around her, turning moments of struggle or frustration into opportunities for growth. She is the full-time Research & Development Chef for Clementines Ice Cream, using food science to bring new flavors to ice creams!
An ally to the LGBTQ+ community, she’s a mom trying to raise twin teenagers to be good human beings in this crazy timeline. Providing safe, creative third spaces for youth is really important to her.
